IT WASN'T
REALLY
THE PLAN.
There was no plan.
There was a newspaper advertisement.
HEERENVEEN.
There was an advertisement in the newspaper for try-dives at a local diving club.
He went.
He liked it.
That was, more or less, the beginning.
STARTED HERE.
HE KEPT
GOING.
He joined Duikteam Heerenveen and worked his way through the levels. There was no particularly ambitious master plan attached to this.
He simply continued.
ABOUT
TWO WEEKS.
On holiday in Greece, he discovered that becoming a PADI instructor could apparently be done in about two weeks.
So he did it.
HE HAD
ALREADY
SAID NO.
A dive shop had offered him a job.
He declined.
Later, he called them.
The job was still available.
He changed his mind.
IDENTIFIED.
CHANGED THINGS.
BONAIRE.
Somewhere along the way, diving stopped being something he did alongside everything else.
It became the thing he kept doing.
XPRODIVER
BONAIRE.
At Xprodiver Bonaire, he started technical diving.
Then he started teaching it.
CYLINDERS.
VIP
DIVING.
Today, Martijn is based at VIP Diving in Bonaire, teaching divers, Divemasters and instructors across recreational and technical diving.
The progression got considerably less accidental somewhere along the way.

He could have stopped diving.
He did not.
